Longtime McCain supporter Louise Callahan of Reading, with
Senator McCain in New Hampshire during the recent N.H. Primary.

I would like to endorse Senator John McCain for candidate in the Republican
Primary on February 5, 2008 for the following reasons:
1.  The only Republican candidate to offer a plan on Climate Change who has sponsored legislation calling for a cap on emissions. Most of the Republican candidates have not responded to a plan on Climate Change. His plan calls for a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and is not based on a money-making enterprise with pork barrel spending! He is not afraid to reach across the aisle and work with Democrats to sponsor sensible, necessary legislation. Compromise always works; partisanship can deliver division and thus no results.

2.  In 24 years in Congress he has never signed or sponsored a tax bill with earmarks to his home state of Arizona, thus not encouraging pork barrel spending.

3.  He has been the only vocal Republican who has consistently been opposed to how the war in Iraq should be fought on the ground; meeting with both the President and former Defense Sec. Rumsfeld in April 2003, calling for more troops and begging for a surge. As we all know, the surge has now been successful so far, but how many thousands of Iraqi and American lives have perished because his consistent message was not heeded years ago?

4.  In this time of great unrest around the Middle East Region, he holds UNQUESTIONABLY, without a doubt, the most experience, credentials, and first hand knowledge in both National Security and in the Armed Services Committee. Last month the tragic murder of Pakistan’s former Prime Minister reminds us all, less we become complacent, that the War on Terror is ongoing, escalating, and far from over. Senator McCain is the ONLY Republican candidate who can be counted on to be responsible to keep us safe. Just ask yourself, what other Republican candidates have even traveled to Iraq since March of 2003 or comprehends the threats from Jihadists!

5.  His stand on Immigration is No Amnesty; immediately deport the 20 percent of illegals who have committed crimes; hold employers who hire illegals to pay high fines and be subject to possible arrest; allow illegal immigrants who have been here more than two decades to go to the back of the line and be processed; seriously secure the borders with Mexico, holding the border state Governors to be responsible for their respective border enforcement; and insist on those immigrants who enter our country legally to learn English and pay taxes.
Thank You,
Louise Callahan
